The finished WinterWillow eco-coffin

Who chooses an WinterWillow eco-coffin?

An eco-coffin is the ideal choice for the person who cares about their community and is concerned about leaving the earth healthy for tomorrow’s generations.  Choosing an eco-coffin is like giving back a final gift.

Whether cremation or burial services are required, the eco-coffin is the environmentally preferred choice.

Giving back to the community

WinterWillow employs and provides opportunities to individuals who have experienced or are vulnerable to homelessness.

By providing training, skills building, and employment the WinterWillow social enterprise is combating the effects of homelessness on the Cambridge community.

Any surpluses made from the business are used to sustain ongoing training and employment or to support our founding charity, WinterComfort.

Why WinterWillow?

WinterWillow provides an opportunity to choose an option that is kinder and gentler on the environment and supports the efforts of a local charity.

By choosing WinterWillow you are giving back to both the environment and the community, doubling the social benefit achieved through your choices.

By choosing a local supplier the risk of receiving a poor quality product from an unknown source is eliminated.

Being Good to the Environment

Nearly half a million wooden coffins are burnt in the UK each year, polluting the atmosphere with dioxin, hydrochloric acid, hydrofluoric acid, sulphur dioxide and carbon dioxide .

These same toxins are released during decomposition, just more slowly from underground and are released into the soil first.

Willow coffins are woven and therefore do not depend on toxic glues, varnish, plastics, or metals.  Willow is a biodegradable material with a green production process.

Locally manufactured coffins eliminate the need for shipping, reducing overall carbon emissions created by transport.

Use of willow is employed in conjunction with local willow cultivation programme.  Willow cultivation supports biodiversity and acts as a carbon sink.
